- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup flax seeds (ground is best)

- 1 tsp each: connamon, ginger (fresh is best), and cloves
Cream shortening or butter, egg, sugar and molasses with an electric mixer in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl (or carefully, in the same bowl), stir together the remaining ingredients.
Add flour mixture to butter mixture and mix some more.
Roll into balls, coat in sugar and bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 350ºF.
If dough is too sticky to roll nicely, increase flour by 1/4 cup increments until it is not sticky anymore.
Enjoy!
