New Site

Postby h07r0d » Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:31 am

Ok, so I'm moving forward on the site layout.

I've upgraded the forums to better match the blue themed layout and it seems to fit quite well.

Looking to get feedback from everyone here.

Looks great Todd!

What I'd like to suggest is to have a Bio or Profile page of all members of the Board of Directors with a head-shot photo, so all newbies to league know who the people are that run the league. Even the Webmaster!

Thanks Dean,
That page does exist on the current site, so I'll be adding it to the new one as well.
Content is the next phase after layout, so once everyone is happy with the design, I'll put out requests for more info
and be moving the old site fully to the new layout.

Hey Website Guru,

I prefer the blue site. I would love to see the peking beaver added if it's possible.

On the home page, could we have a weather conditions on game day box. This way if a game is cancelled due to poor weather, they'll know right away when they go to our website. The mass email is always good, but I want people to use our website more. You put all this effort into it, so I want our members to see it as a useful tool.
Also, I would like to see on the home page, a small box that states what what Ultimate is, what spirit of the game means, and a link to the latest version of the rules. This could be located on top of the Sponsors' box. If I were a new person to Ultimate I would want to know the basic facts as soon as I opened the home page.

Maybe there should a "Register" Tab. A page dedicated to signing up for whatever league happens to be running at the time.

If on the homepage you could play a slideshow of cool pics from the games, that would be a great visual aid.

Whenever I have designed a webpage, I put myself in the shoes of someone who is completely new. I'm thinking I'll send you the flyer I made last year and we can make it into a downloadable factsheet. I'll work on updating this too.

The work you are doing on the website is both professional looking and extremely important to getting our message out. You rock Todd!

Ok, not much feedback yet.
Thanks to the people who have.
If I don't hear anything more by Wednesday, I'm going with the blue layout.
I'll still try to get 'peeking beaver' in there somewhere.

Also, see the leaguerunner topic
http://sudburyultimate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17
for info about using it for our league management.

Hey Todd,
Just a couple things, for the league tab, do you use the same password and user name as the forum?
And also, is the contact us section up and running?

The leaguerunner(LR) and forum accounts are technically separate accounts. I set it up so if you are new to the website in general (no LR, no forums) and sign up on LR, it will duplicate a forum account for you with the same username/password. I looked into how to merge the two security systems and it's well beyond my capabilities currently. I'm hoping to eventually get it so that a login on the forum site is the same as a login on the LR site, but that will be down the road.

If you already have a forum account, sign up as new for LR with the same username and password as you did for the forums.
I don't think the way I coded things will complain about it, but if it does let me know.
