Sudbury Ultimate Club

Hello to all the loyal friends of Sudbury Ultimate

It's officially spring!

The winter has come to a close and things couldn't have been better. Snowplate was bigger and badder than ever and Winter Indoor League just wrapped up. That means it's time to look ahead to the summer...

SUC has been around for more than 10 years but I can honestly say I've never been more excited about Ultimate in Sudbury and the upcoming year. We have several new initiatives on the go as well as some exciting new partnerships in the works. Some of them I'll tell you about today, some are still being finalized.

1. Fields
Oh those darned fields. After many tense years trying to get good field space and times we have recently made an agreement to play all games up to the end of August at Cambrian College. The field there is lush and well maintained and is not overused like some other fields in town. That takes me into announcement number 2...

2. League play and nights of the week
Now that we have more fields to use we can have more teams to use them. As of the 2009 summer season we will officially be having 2 separate tiered nights of play. Essentially it's two separate leagues. Monday night will be a more competitive Tier A night and Wednesday the novice/beginner tier B.

So now you're asking "Okay so what does that mean for me a player?"

What that means is that we can have more play at more levels Monday Night Tier A teams will be teams and players that want more fast paced games for the competitive minded of us out there. Wednesday night Tier B teams will be novice and new teams and players that are out for a fun social time with friends and co-workers. Essentially Wednesday will be a more laid back game that is less intimidating to new players, allowing us introduce the sport to more people.

Now I know some are asking "Can I play in both nights?"
Of course. Your team can play in both if you wish or you can play on two different teams on either night if you wish. Or you can just play in one. It's totally up to you!

"Do I have to play both nights?"
Not if you don't want to. You select the level of play that you want. If you want to gather a team of co-workers that have never played before you should probably join the Wednesday Tier B league. If you are a seasoned player that wants big layouts you should be playing in Monday Tier A. But many will want to play both and we encourage that. The more players the better. We also encourage experienced players to start up or get recruited to a new/novice team and act as a coach. It always help to have a little experience out there to learn the game.

Wednesday May 27th-First Night of Tier B play

Monday June 1st-First Night of Tier A play

There will be an email going out soon with more info about registration deadlines, fees etc.. You can also keep checking back here

3. Membership and Payment

Along with this new tiered system will be a new membership/payment system. Players will be asked to buy a Membership in SUC that will last one year (May 1, 2009-April 30, 2010). This will cover your insurance administrative costs in all leagues and SUC events for 1 year. Then when you want to play a league/event you simply pay the league/event fee which will cover all fees associated with that (mostly field costs). Membership in SUC will be $25 for 1 year and will include a disc and other giveaways. Individual League/event costs will depend of costs of that particular event.

4. Jerseys

As we have expanded it has been increasingly difficult and expensive to provide Jerseys to all teams. As we are now paying full costs for fields we felt this was one area that we had to cut to keep costs down to you the players. That means that teams will be required to provide their own Jerseys. Existing teams feel free to use any Jerseys you had in the past that we provided or you can get new ones on your own. We have started a partnership with VC Ultimate to be a Jersey Supplier for SUC and will have info soon about ordering Jerseys from VC for your teams.

5. Tier A and Tier B bids.
Captains and wannabe captains we are accepting bids for Tier A and Tier B Bids. Please send the following info to sudburyultimate@gmail.com

  1. Captain Name
  2. Team Name
  3. Tier A or B or Both
  4. Tentative roster (doesn't have to be complete, just a rough idea)
  5. Jersey Colour
  6. Email address
  7. Phone Number

That's the newest info, I hope it has gotten you as excited about the summer as I am. Now the league needs your help! We need you the players to get out there and do some more recruitment. Get a group of people from your office together and start a new team. Tell some friends about the league and get them involved. You are our best resource for finding newer players. Our growth possibilities are unlimited, all we need is people like you to spread the word about how great a game Ultimate is.

Welcome to the new SUC

OH Man have we got new stuff. Click to your heart's content, and have fun.

We're looking to have people get more involved with SUC, so we've setup some great forums for people to chat, and also, take a look at the PICS section. Once you create a forum account, you can upload pics to the site for other players to check out and comment on. We know you've got lots of good pics, so get them up there.

Things are very young on the new SUC, so any problems, please let us know.
