About the Sudbury Ultimate Club
The Sudbury Ultimate Club is a recreational league that promotes and organizes Ultimate in Sudbury. The summer league is co-ed and the age range of the members is primarily in their 20's and 30's. The old folks in their 40's still THINK they're in their 20's, but what's wrong with that? As long as their insurance is paid up, right?
Our Club organizes a competitive summer league, pick-up games, and a winter tournament called Snowplate.
The board is made up of crazy volunteers who sacrifice their jobs each and every day, while diligently(and secretly) using their computers at work, to keep the league flying, literally and figuratively! They have also been known to send a travelling team to the outer reaches of our beautiful province, to participate in wild, partying weekends, also known as Ultimate Tournaments. The competitive level at which they play in these tournaments is far surpassed by their ability to carouse.....and wholeheartedly, at that! Now if that doesn't make you want to join the SUC, we don't know what will!
Seriously though, the league is an amazing mixture of people from all walks of life, who enjoy the camaraderie and competitiveness of Ultimate. So if you've ever had an inkling to see what Ultimate is all about, please join us. We'd love to show you the game. Hope to see you soon!
SUC History
As for the history of the SUC, as far as we know, the club was started in 1997 by it's founder, Erin Simmons. A competitive athlete in many sports, she started our league in Sudbury after returning here from Vancouver, where she had been introduced to the sport of Ultimate. So thanks Erin, wherever your disc is hovering these days! We love you! Other than that, it's only been 10 years since our inception, so as far as history goes, we're all becoming a part of it! Why don't you?
